Thanks to Jordan and Cut & Paste crew for some very thorough documentation of the second Crustacean Cup.
Thanks for Jordan Shields for documenting the second Crustacean Cup tournament. Included below are a selection of his images for your viewing pleasure.
We’ll soon have a highlights clip from Cut and Paste featuring the very best feats of athleticism and sportsmanship from the day.
Ooh la la, local music lovers slash soccer fans were pinching the sky on Sunday arvo when Crabcelona FC once again reigned supreme in Foodchain’s Crustacean Cup.
Patrick O’Brien’s Mariners put up a strong and energetic fight, but a killer goal from Crabcelona captain Adam James ensured Crabs walked away with a 1-0 victory. That’s back to back wins for the Crabs and they’re already getting pumped to defend their title…
Earlier in the day, Crabcelona defeated the valiant Mictacea 1-0 when Patrick McLaughlin from Sugar Army delivered a belter to the back of the net. Mictacea exuded skill and class and it was sad to see their first round exit – hopefully they’ll have an easier draw next year.
In the second knock-out match, The Mariners felled the big-talking Tyranocrabs 1-0 with a great goal from Robin (Drowning Horse)!
This post will soon be updated with pics and clips from Cut & Paste so check back for a more thorough run down..
Cheers to RTR‘s Chris, Declan, Alexa and Stan for delivering a killer live broadcast, Tomas Ford (and son Preston) for a stellar effort on the mic, Nunzio’s Mobile Pizza and CNR Cafe for match day snacks, and to all the players and supporters for coming down and making it an awesome day!
PS People always ask where the match shirts are printed – I can direct you to Jon Russo (Hammer Ink) for some sweet screenprinting deals.
The Crustacean Cup catering is confirmed – munch on Wagyu Sangas, grilled corn, grilled skewers and delicious salads from CNR Cafe, or get yr Il Padrino (RIP) fix from Nunzio’s Mobile Pizza Van! They’ll be ready and raring to go from 12pm so head down early for a pre-game munch.
Cheers to Drum for the great article in today’s issue. Crustacean enthusiasts will notice a slight typo – it’s Mictacea, not Micacea! But hey, no such thing as bad publicity for a newly discovered crustacean, eh?
Jason Kenny came down to a pre-tournament training session and had a chat with 3 of 4 captains. Thanks Jason! Read all about it here (click the image a few times to get the full size version):
Foodchain’s 2011 Crustacean Cup
Sunday March 27, 1pm-5pm.
Russell Square, James Street, Northbridge
The Crustacean Cup local band soccer tournament returns after a joyfully chaotic inaugural match in 2010.
The free event, presented during Eat Drink Perth 2011, combines the fun of the world game with the sometimes laughable physical capabilities of local musicians.
4 teams captained by local musicians David Egan (Badminton Bandit), Adam James (Emperors), Patrick O’Brien (Helta Skelta) and Jon Russo (The Chainsaw Hookers) will battle it out across 3 matches played on a 7-a-side soccer pitch.
Players are drawn from local favourites like Split Seconds, Sugar Army, Red Jezebel, Russian Winters, Cal Peck, Will Stoker, Astral Travel, Bamodi, and more.
MC Tomas Ford will call the action and entertain the crowd, while RTRFM will operate a live broadcast from 3pm for the final match.
A professional referee will be mic-ed up, enabling the crowd to hear all the controversial decisions.
Bring along a picnic or sample Eat Drink Perth wares in the Northbridge precinct, and enjoy the sight of panting musicians playing the world game!
Kick off for the knock-out matches are 1:30pm and 2:30pm, while the final starts at 3.30pm.
Last year the Tyranocrabs got pumped up before their penalty shoot-out to the strains of a Coolio classic…RTR have taken this inspiration and funnelled it into this ad: Crustacean Cup RTR Ad
